Hey Birds (“Hey Birds,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates heybirdz.com and related apps (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo — either directly, or from Google when you sign in with Google OAuth.

Preferences & survey answers. During onboarding you can tell us your interested event categories, household composition, preferred days/times, travel distance, budget range, and notification preferences. We use this to personalize your event recommendations and email digest — you can skip or update it anytime from your profile.

Content you create.Saved events, “I went!” check-ins, itineraries, concierge chat messages, and any events or business ads you submit for review.

Usage & device data. Pages visited, features used, browser/device type, and approximate location inferred from your IP address (city-level only — we do not track precise GPS location unless you explicitly opt in to a proximity check-in feature, where offered).

Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe shares back only what we need to manage your subscription (plan, status, renewal date).

Cookies & similar technologies. We use cookies to keep you signed in and remember preferences. We may use privacy-respecting product analytics to understand how the Service is used and to improve it.

2. How We Use Your Information

Operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
Personalize event recommendations, weekly email digests, and concierge responses.
Process subscription payments and manage your account tier.
Send transactional emails (submission confirmations, receipts, badge milestones) and, if you’ve opted in, marketing/digest emails — you can unsubscribe from non-essential emails anytime.
Moderate community-submitted events and business ads for safety and quality.
Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.

3. How We Share Information

We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with:

Service providers who help us run Hey Birds: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage), Stripe (payments), Resend (email delivery), our AI provider (to power the concierge chat and grade submitted events), and, if enabled, product analytics, mapping, and weather providers.
Other users, but only what you choose to make visible — e.g. a shared itinerary link, or your display name on a submitted event.
Legal & safety — if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Hey Birds, our users, or the public.

4. Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see below).

5. Your Rights & Choices

Access & update. Review and edit your profile and preferences from your account settings at any time.
Delete your account.Email us and we’ll delete your account and personal data, except what we’re required to retain for legal, tax, or security reasons.
Email preferences. Unsubscribe from the weekly digest and marketing emails via the link in any email, or from your notification settings.
Cookies. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies; doing so may affect how well the Service works.

6. Children’s Privacy

Hey Birds is intended for users 13 and older, and accounts are created by adults or with parental consent. Some events are tagged “family” or “all-ages” to help parents plan outings — this describes the event, not a child user of the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we’ll remove it.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit, database-level access controls (row-level security), and restricted internal access — to protect your information. No system is 100% secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We’ll update the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we’ll take reasonable steps to notify you (e.g. via email or an in-app notice).
